Dave Lee Travis re-arrested over abuse claims
By Andy Malt | Published on Thursday 14 March 2013
Former Radio 1 and ‘Top Of The Pops’ presenter Dave Lee Travis was arrested and bailed for a second time yesterday by Scotland Yard detectives investigating sexual abuse claims in the wake of the Jimmy Savile scandal.
As previously reported, Travis was arrested in November. Though specifics of his arrest then weren’t divulged at the time, it followed accusations of chauvinism and groping in the press by some former BBC colleagues. In a statement, shortly before his Magic FM show was axed by Bauer Media, Travis stressed in a statement that the accusations against him were “nothing to do with kids”, before denying all the allegations.
Earlier this week, the Chief Crown Prosecutor said that there were be further arrests as part of the post-Savilegate Operation Yewtree in the coming weeks, saying: “There are more arrests scheduled over the next few weeks. Some are very high-profile figures. They are people whose names have come forward because of the high profile of child abuse in recent months. There are people you will be interested in”.
