Craig David and Colin Lester form new publishing venture with Universal
By Chris Cooke | Published on Monday 25 February 2013
Craig David and his manager Colin Lester have launched a new joint venture with Universal Music Publishing to be known as JEM Music. David has also signed a global publishing deal with Universal and the new business, and will merge his existing publishing company Bootyman Music into JEM. Lester is also a partner in the new entity and as he also heads up Universal’s artist management unit Twenty First Artists, the deal keeps everything very much in the family.
Confirming the new deal, UMPG’s President Of North America Evan Lamberg told CMU: “To be in business with a great manager and song man such as Colin Lester is going to be pure fun. He is timeless in his approach as to what really matters… the song. And to make things even better, we get to work with one of my favourite songwriters of the last fifteen years, Mr Craig David”.
Lester added: “I have worked with Craig David for many years and we both decided it was about time we formed a music publishing company that would allow us to work with the many great artists, producers and writers that we encounter. We have partnered with Evan Lamberg and his team at Universal Music Group because they are the best in the business and because their global reach and ambition gives the best platform to develop this exciting new company”.
And finally David said: “I’m really pleased that I am working with a publisher in Evan Lamberg whose opinion I really value and respect and who has a great understanding of artists and songwriting”.
