Copyright tribunal reach secret conclusion on PPL/pubs dispute
By CMU Editorial | Published on Friday 9 October 2009
The UK Copyright Tribunal has apparently reached an interim decision regarding the royalty dispute between recording royalties collecting society PPL and the British pub industry regarding the cost of licences for playing recorded music in bars and the like. That said, for reasons I’m not sure of, we’re not allowed to know what the decision is.
Both sides in the dispute – so PPL on one side and the British Beer & Pub Association and the British Hospitality Association on the other – will return to the Tribunal later this month to discuss the decision and try and reach a workable solution for moving forward. PPL and the pub industry have been in dispute over royalty rates ever since 2004.
