Other notable announcements and developments today…
• Jack White’s Third Man Records is planning to open a new vinyl pressing plant in Detroit, with at least eight presses. Pitchfork has more details.
• The process of shutting down Rdio has begun, following the asset strip by Pandora and declaration of bankruptcy last week. As of yesterday, accounts will close on each user’s next billing date.
• There’ll be a Christmas edition of the Independent Label Market at Brewers Market in London on 28 Nov. Here’s some info.
• Let it be on the record that latest records confirm a trend seen in previous records that Adele’s new record remains on track to set a new UK chart record. As of yesterday evening ’25’ had shifted 538,000 – gaining rapidly on Oasis’ first week sales record of 696,000 for ‘Be Here Now’ in 1997.
• Rihanna’s new album is possibly coming out this week, possibly only on Tidal.
• Jamie XX will headline Alexandra Palace in London on 24 Feb.
• Rokia Traoré will release a new album called ‘Né So’ on 12 Feb. She’ll also play a show at The Roundhouse in London on 6 Feb.
