Manimal Label Group

Other notable announcements and developments today…

• A new collective of US indie labels, Manimal Label Group, which includes Manimal Vinyl Records and Buddyhead, launched last week. The group also announced a worldwide distribution and publishing deal with INgrooves.

• Secondary ticketing company StubHub has employed a new Editor-In-Chief, Jonah Freedman, to oversee music and sports content, as it attempts to turn its website into a ‘destination’ where people discover stuff, rather than just turning up, buying tickets at an inflated price and leaving.

• Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has signed a new management deal with Larry Rudolph’s ReignDeer Entertainment. “I look forward to making incredible history together and having FUN while we take over the world, work and travel on the most adventurous journey you could ever imagine”, Tyler told Billboard a little too optimistically.

• Prolific psych-rock crew The Brian Jonestown Massacre have cranked out a new EP to follow their approved latest LP ‘Revelations’. With absolutely no further ado, listen to a preview track titled ‘Heat’ in advance of the big release on 10 Nov, will ya.

• Music writing festival Louder Than Words will return to Manchester next month, covering music photography, journalism and literature. More details here.

• Masculine-tailored ‘X-Factor’ judge/vulture Mel ‘Scary Spice’ B is inexplicably hosting this year’s MOBO awards, which take place LIVE at Wembley Arena on 22 Oct. Be there or, don’t.

• Nicholas ‘Grimmy’ Grimshaw will preside over this year’s iteration of the always-awkward Mercury Prize-giving ‘soiree’. So in other words, he, like Mel B at the ol MOBOs, is hosting it. The winner of 2014’s ‘top album’ gong will be announced, by Nick Grimshaw, on 29 Oct at London’s Roundhouse.
