Jack White

Other notable announcements and developments today…

• Literally no one in the history of the internet has every enjoyed the experience of watching an interactive music video. Whether they interact with it or not. Except maybe one of the Arcade Fire ones. Anyway, Jack White’s had a go now. Get back to being a luddite, White!

• Taylor Swift has released a ‘deluxe’ edition of her ‘1989’ album on iTunes. Some people are complaining that, having already bought the long player in its original form, they don’t need the full package, but will have to pay the higher per-track price to access the new songs. But what those people are forgetting is that all bonus tracks are bullshit rubbish not worth having.

• Jimi Hendrix has been dead for 46 years, but he still keeps churning out the hits, doesn’t he? His latest release is the first in a series of pre-fame recordings, featuring tracks he made with Curtis Knight & The Squires. It’ll be out on 23 Mar. “Existence”, said Experience Hendrix CEO Janie Hendrix.

• “I wonder when will Everything Everything release a new album”, thinks out intrepid hero. “15 Jun. It is called ‘Get To Heaven'”, comes a distant call. “I didn’t ask what it was called”, shouts our hero. The voice replies, “Fuck you then, I won’t show you this video for the first single, ‘Distant Past'”.

• Squarepusher, I have been informed, will release a new album called ‘Damogen Furies’ on 20 Apr. You can download a track from his website.

• The CMU approved Surf City will return with a new album of fuzzy guitar pop on 23 Mar through Fire Records.

• The Stones are releasing a new compilation on 2 Mar called ‘Three Blind Mice’. The Stones who were signed to New Zealand indie label Flying Nun in the 80s that is. Who did you think I meant?

• Jamie XX will headline Mixmag Live at The Rainbow Venues on 20 Mar.

• Foo Fighters will headline the Friday night of this year’s Glastonbury Festival. “Sorry”, said Dave Grohl in a video to accept the award for Best International Band at last night’s NME Awards.

• The BRITs will be live-streamed for non-Brits on YouTube next week. It’s not the only digital tie-up to return at the awards bash, of course, because that Twitter vote thing is back again too. “Broke”, said Sunil Singhvi, Head of Entertainment Partnerships at Twitter UK.
