Busted

Other notable announcements and developments today…

• Warner’s East West Records have signed Busted – and that means “all three original members” says the press release. Though they should read up on their Busted history, because that Charlie Simpson ain’t an original member. But still, this does mean the united threesome will release a new record later this year. So that’s a thing.

• YouTuber-focused music firm Instrumental has signed one of the acts in its network, Calum Scott, to a record deal with Universal’s Capitol in the US. Instrumental says that, working with Scott’s management at Vector, they led a ‘social first’ strategy that has seen him build a significant following in just six months. It’s the power of the YouTubes, see.

• Ninja Tune’s publishing arm Just Isn’t Music has signed a three album deal with Pins, the Manchester band who, says the publisher: “Bring a giant gust of fresh air to punk rock”. It follows Pins’ recent alliance with Bella Union on the recordings side.

• New York-based indie music publisher Reservoir has hired long-time Universal Music Publishing exec Donna Caseine as its SVP Creative And A&R, to develop and oversee the firm’s West Coast operations.

• Snapchat now has more daily users than Twitter, sources have told Bloomberg. It’s thought that the rapidly evolving Snapchat now has 150 million daily users, while Twitter is on 140 million. So you should all stop following us on Twitter and find us on Snapchat. If you do find us on Snapchat, do let me know, I’ve been wondering where we are.

• Twitter and Yahoo recently met to discuss a possible merger, says the New York Post. Twittoo! – what could possibly go wrong with that? Though it seems those initial speculative talks haven’t progressed to anything more serous.

• Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds’ sixteenth studio album ‘Skeleton Tree’ is only going to be bloody released on 9 Sep. A film containing the new music, ‘One More Time With Feeling’, will hit cinemas the previous day.

• Bastille announce new album ‘Wild World’. That’s pretty much all the press release says. Oh look, there’s a short video.
