Other notable announcements and developments today…
• If you’re thinking that Nick Roden, formerly of ADA and Defected Records, has just been named Director Of Business Development at music distributor INgrooves, then you’re embarrassingly misinformed. Director Of International Business Development is his new job title I’ll have you know. Based in London he’ll be developing new and existing distributor, label, manager and artist business relationships.
• If you’re thinking that Alissa Crevier, formerly of Spotify, has just been named Head Of Brand at direct-to-fan platform PledgeMusic, then you’re embarrassingly misinformed. Global Head Of Brand is her new job title, I’ll have you know. Based in New York and San Francisco, she’ll be building a team to seek partnerships between brands and artists in the Pledge community.
• The dance music focussed Brighton Music Conference will return for the second year on 5-6 Jun. It takes place in Scunthorpe. No, not really. It’s in Brighton. But I got you, didn’t I? Further details can be found here.
• Hipster Runoff is up for sale, should you be in the market for a defunct blog that “still generates traffic” and has “quality inbound links from NYTimes, Gawker, Wired, and more”.
• Meghan Trainor and Harry Styles have recorded a “cute acoustic love thing” together, Trainor has told The Sun. By ‘thing’, she means song. And by ‘cute’ and ‘acoustic’ she means they used a ukulele. Bad times.
• A new Rihanna song appears to exist, which would be more exciting if it didn’t seem to involve Florence Welch. Still, there are probably others where this came from.
• CMU Artist Of The Year St Vincent has made available one of the bonus tracks from the upcoming ‘deluxe’ re-issue of her ‘St Vincent’ album on SoundCloud. It’s called ‘Bad Believer’ and by golly if you can’t just listen to it here.
• Scarlet Soho have made available a track from their new album to the New Retro Wave YouTube channel. ‘Gigolo’ is taken from ‘In Cold Blood’, which is due for release on 13 Feb. The band will play The Islington in London on 26 Feb.
• Rock-style band Bête-Noire have recorded and placed upon the internet a song called ‘Piss On Putin’, inspired by a poster protesting the Russian government’s anti-LGBT stance ahead of last year’s Winter Olympics. Listen here.
• Nadine Shah is going to release her new album, ‘Fast Food’, on 6 Apr. That very same day she will head out on a tour of the UK. Tickets are on sale, like, now, or something. Whatever, here’s the video her single ‘Stealing Cars’.
• Marika Hackman will release her debut album, ‘We Slept At Last’, on 16 Feb. She’ll also be touring in March and April. Wanna hear a song? Here’s a song.
• The CMU approved Tobias Jesso Jr, if that is his real name, will be touring the UK in May to promote his debut album, ‘The Goon’. Here’s a video, in which is contained the song, ‘How Could You Babe’.
• The Vaccines, who you may or may not remember from such years as 2010, will be touring in March and April. Tickets go on sale here on Friday. But why, why are they touring? Well, they have a new album coming out. This is a song from it, called ‘Handsome’.
• PJ Harvey has added another 20 sessions to her recording in a box thing at Somerset House. They’ve all sold out already though, so bad luck.
