Based on the CMU Insights seminar series ‘Building A Fanbase And Fan Business’, this is the CMU Trends Guide To Music Marketing, providing an overview of how new artists go about building a fanbase and the basics of label-led album marketing campaigns.

PART ONE: THE MUSIC MARKETING TOOLKIT
This section looks at how artists go about building an initial fanbase and then explores the ten key music marketing tools, including: social media, direct-to-fan, the music press, music radio, music TV, streaming service playlists, advertising, events, partnerships and content.

PART TWO: SOCIAL AND DIGITAL CHANNELS
This section puts the spotlight on social and digital channels, looking at where social media fits into the music marketing mix. It then discusses recent trends in the use of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube and SoundCloud, the role of the artist website and mailing list, and what a social media strategy should include.
