And Finally Beef Of The Week

CMU Beef Of The Week #07: Liam Gallagher v Peter Kay

By | Published on Saturday 20 February 2010

So, Peter Kay may have been woefully out of his depth as the presenter of this year’s BRIT Awards, but he did get one thing right – treating Liam Gallagher’s childish arrogance with the contempt it deserves. Because there is a difference between being ‘rock n roll’ and being, well, we’ll get to that…

Gallagher took to the stage at Earls Court on Tuesday night to claim the BRITs Album Of 30 Years trophy, one of two special awards to mark the 30th anniversary of the BRITs, for Oasis’ ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory?’ Snubbing his brother Noel in his acceptance speech (there’s a bonus beef for you), he said: “Listen kids, I wanna thank [‘Morning Glory’-era Oasis members] Bonehead, Guigs, Alan White and the best fucking fans in the world”, before throwing the microphone and the award into the audience. Watching Gallagher swagger away, Kay simply said: “What a knobhead”.

Most people seem to agreed with the sentiment, but it bothered Gallagher so much that he took to Twitter the next morning to say: “Listen up, fat fuck. As a real northerner, I was brought up to say shit to people’s faces not behind their back”.

Presumably these days directing insults at people via the internet is classed as the same as shouting them right into their stupid faces.

Kay, meanwhile, wrote on his website the same day: “So, it was the BRITs last night and I was honoured to be asked to host the show, especially with it being 30 years old. Congratulations to all the winners, including Noel Gallagher who sadly didn’t get a mention (and who thankfully isn’t a knobhead)”.

Next week: Bobby Davro calls Simon Le Bon a dicksplat.
