Eddy Says: Christmas, New Year and our first decade!

The Remix

It seems that with every year that I’ve done this show, music has got better and better, if only because there is so much more of it rising to the surface with each year. And as we say bye-bye to 2009, we enter a very special year for The Remix. Those of you who’ve been on board from the very start may be alarmed to know that with this new year we will reach the point at which there has been a decade of The Remix on Xfm.

Ten years is one hell of a big deal: when anyone asks the question: “How’s the show doing?” I give a standard answer: “[deep exhale of breath] It’s still there… after all these years”. For a commercially-funded station that specialises in rock music, this is quite incredible and I pinch myself every week, never ever taking it for granted. Given the show has lasted an inordinate amount of time, I think it’s cause for celebration, so this is what I have in store for you:

Remix All-nighter at Matter
I’m going to do a few shows there in 2010, which will be part of an Xfm record breaking eight hour live broadcast. We’ll go live from 10pm to 6am.

Remix Central
It’s time to bring things back into town on a more regular basis, so I can champion smaller bands in a live club scenario again, without the pressure of having to persuade 3000 people to come out to North Greenwich. I’ve almost found a venue, so watch this space.

Co-hosts
I’m going to have the show co-hosted by some interesting characters. I’ll bring in some old Remix favourites from years gone by, some cool new artists, and some random curveballs that will just make for great radio.

And before all of that there will be two very special shows over Christmas. With all that in mind, here is a quick run down of what you can expect over the Christmas break and in the first few weeks of 2010:

25 Dec – All Time Top Tens Special
While you’re drunkenly passed out in front of the telly, I’ll play you the best All Time Top Tens of 2009, a whole four hours of ten minute mixes, plus a good deal of catching up with artists involved.

31Dec/1 Jan – Bombs Of The Year
Xfm have asked me to put together a (record breaking) 12 HOUR SHOW – 6pm-6am – for New Year’s Eve/Day!

8 Jan – Example co-host
The London boy we all love, and the national ambassador for flame grilled peri-peri chicken, will be in for the whole show.

15 Jan – Hadouken co-host
James from everyone’s favourite shouty electro-rave crew will be sharing the hotseat with me, playing new tracks and bringing in some surprises.

22 Jan – Matt Horne co-host
The brilliant character actor from ‘Gavin And Stacey’ is actually a total music head and lover of old skool drum n bass. This will be very special, I think.

I want the whole of 2010 to be a special birthday year, decade-marking occasion, so you’ll have a lot of these interesting shows to look forward to. Thanks for listening, have a fantastic Christmas, New Year, and 2010. It really has been an absolute pleasure to put the show together for you every week and to communicate here, and on Facebook/Twitter.

To the person reading this who’s listened since week one, and equally if this is your first ever week on board, we are all in one extended family and I couldn’t have done this without you. Well, I could, but it wouldn’t have been half as much fun. Here’s to another ten!
