Cherrytree Records boss Martin Kierszenbaum has finally confirmed he is staying with the Universal Music Group, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

As previously reported, Kierszenbaum announced he was departing Universal’s Interscope division last June, and indicated he would be taking his Cherrytree imprint with him. But then a few weeks later it emerged Kierszenbaum was still in talks with Universal, and it seemed like he would be sticking around after all. And although no announcements followed to confirm that fact, Cherrytree continued to sign artists seemingly as a Universal affiliate.

Now the Reporter has a quote from Kierszenbaum confirming he and Cherrytree are staying put, and also bigging up Fueled By Raman co-founder John Janick who, as previously reported, joined Interscope as COO last October.

Says Kierszenbaum: “[Interscope boss] Jimmy Iovine not only gave me the opportunity to start Cherrytree Records in 2005, but also the support, advice, and encouragement to sign progressive artists with a point of view and stick with them until they break. I’m not only deeply grateful to him, but also over the moon about the arrival of John Janick, one of the premiere record executives in the business, to the helm of Interscope Geffen A&M where I’m excited to begin this new chapter for Cherrytree”.
