CD Baby do deal with LimeWire store

By | Published on Thursday 2 July 2009

Independent distributors CD Baby have reportedly done a deal with P2P service LimeWire which will see music represented by the distribution firm sold in the LiveWire Store, the legit part of the P2P company’s music operation. The head of partner relations at LimeWire, Tom Monday, is quoted thus: “CD Baby and the LimeWire Store both champion independent artists and give them access to new customers and revenue opportunities, so it’s a perfect partnership, really”.

LimeWire have been dabbling with legit music services for a while, though the major labels’ copyright infringement litigation over their P2P operations continues to work its way through the courts, and that is presumably hampering any efforts to get the bigger record companies involved in their newer ventures. That said, the web firm has just hired Jason Herskowitz, who previously headed up the Universal Music backed digital music venture TotalMusic, which is possibly part of an effort on LimeWire’s part to forge less confrontational relationships with the majors.
