Bowie’s return proves that reunions are “fucking shite”, says Noel Gallagher

Anyone out there hoping for Oasis to get back together and knock out a few of the old hits, well… Firstly, what is wrong with you? Second, Noel Gallagher’s just realised that doing that would be “fucking shite”. Actually, he thinks any band doing that is “fucking shite”. And he’s right. The only problem is, he now thinks that bands getting back together to write new material is fine. Which it really isn’t.

Who can we blame for this? David Bowie, that’s who. Gallagher told the NME: “It’s great to hear his voice singing something new. The more you hear ‘Where Are We Now?’ the better it gets. The video’s mad – like his fucking cat directed it. What it proved to me is that reunions are fucking shite. If you had turned on the news and it had said, ‘David Bowie is to do a fucking series of concerts next year’, everyone would have gone, ‘Oh great, can’t wait, that’s it, let’s talk about something else’. But we’re still talking about that song. New music and records rule, but reunions for gigs are shit”.

Less keen on Bowie is Morrissey. His plans to include a photo of himself and Bowie on an upcoming reissue of his 1989 single ‘The Last Of The Famous International Playboys’ were scuppered when the comeback king complained to EMI. So Morrissey has replaced it with a picture of himself with Rick Astley. And while Rickrolling is so five years ago, that is one of the finest examples of the internet meme ever seen.
