Music rights firm BMG has announced two acquisitions in the Chinese market, with deals confirmed yesterday with EWorld and J.Music. The former is a leading player in the region founded by Alan Ho, Lee Shih Shiong and Lee Wei Shiong, while J.Music was created by producer/songwriter Joanus Lam in Hong Kong in 2002.

Confirming the deals, Dora Yi, Chief Investment Officer for BMG Greater China, told reporters: “With these first two acquisitions in Greater China, BMG is demonstrating its confidence in and long-term commitment to the Asian market. These two great catalogues form the foundation for what BMG intends to be significant future growth in China”.

These are not BMG’s first deals in China – a market the company announced it would be entering in March 2014 – though they are the first acquisitions in the country. A year ago BMG also formed an alliance with Chinese music firm Giant Jump, and then in March this year it announced an agreement with web giant Alibaba.
