Hey, you know how ‘Blurred Lines’ was really controversial in the UK and lots of people said it should be banned, while others did ban it from being played within their institutions? Yeah, turns out that didn’t work so well. Yesterday it was announced on Radio 1 that Robin Thicke’s hit is the most legally downloaded song of all time in the UK.

Actually, it was one of three songs featuring Pharrell Williams to make the top ten, all of which were released in 2013. Daft Punk’s ‘Get Lucky’ came in at number six, while Williams’ solo single ‘Happy’ was at number nine.

In fact, all of the songs in the top ten were decidedly recent, the bulk of them released in 2011, while the oldest (and only track in the top ten to come out outside the 2010s) was Kings Of Leon’s ode to pirate sex, ‘Sex On Fire’.

Commenting on Thicke’s achievement, The Official Charts Company’s Martin Talbot said: “To become one of only two tracks to have been downloaded 1.5 million times – and climb to the top of the poll as the biggest download of all time – is an incredible achievement”.

Here’s the complete top ten:

1. Robin Thicke – Blurred Lines (feat Pharrell Williams and TI)
2. Adele – Someone Like You
3. Maroon Five – Moves Like Jagger (feat Christina Aguilera)
4. Gotye – Somebody That I Used To Know (feat Kimbra)
5. Black Eyed Peas – I Gotta Feeling
6. Daft Punk – Get Lucky (feat Pharrell Williams)
7. Rihanna – We Found Love (feat Calvin Harris)
8. Avicii – Wake Me Up
9. Pharrell Williams – Happy
10. Kings Of Leon – Sex On Fire
