‘Bleak’ Morrissey biopic a possibility

As you and I know, Morrissey is big business right now, ‘Autobiography’ and forthcoming album and all. And it looks like filmmakers Mark Gill Orian Williams, who did the Joy Division biopic ‘Control’, are going to capitalise on the Moz-boom and a big old Morrissey movie, titled ‘Steven’ (aka Moz’s first name).

According to The Hollywood Reporter (via fan-site Morrissey-solo), it’s going to zoom in on mini-Morrissey’s early life, pre-The Smiths, “growing up in bleak Manchester, England, and his triumph over an alienated childhood to become the cult star he is today”.

And, says director Mark Gill: “It’s as much a film for non-Morrissey fans as it is for die-hard devotees, but I cant deny that this is a love letter to Steven Patrick Morrissey and the dark satanic mills of Manchester”.

Whilst the film is so far unauthorised, which is to say Moz hasn’t given it his approval, the plan is to start shooting it at the close of the year. So watch this Morrissey-shaped space. Or this clip of a fan knocking him over:
