Bez to stage anti-fracking bed-in
By Chris Cooke | Published on Tuesday 3 February 2015
One time Happy Mondays’ dancer and now political man of the people Bez will stage a week-long bed-in in London later this month – Lennon/Ono style – in protest at the government’s plans to proceed with shale gas fracking. He’ll be joined by girlfriend Firouzeh Razavi for the protest.
Says Bez in one of those statements: “Where John Lennon and Yoko Ono holed up for a week in the Presidential Suite at the Hilton Hotel Amsterdam for their ‘bed-in for peace’ on 25 Mar 1969, Firouzeh and I are compelled to do our ‘bed-in against fracking’. No one in Britain wants fracking. But the government is, against the will of the people, trying to force it upon us all. And we’re not having it”.
You’ll remember how all wars ended after Lennon and Ono took to their bed for a week, so anti-fracking campaigners are presumably optimistic about what Bez can achieve.
An assortment of people will visit Bez and Razavi during the protest – either in person or via Skype – with a daily round-up posted to YouTube each night. And whatever you think about the merits of this project, sitting on his arse all day while people buzz around pretending to be interested in what he says will all be good practice for when Bez becomes an MP later this year.
