Beyonce is coming (to the UK and Ireland on tour)!

Beyonce headlined the Super Bowl halftime show last night, backed by house band Coldplay (which hardly anyone seems to have noticed). She performed new song ‘Formation’, the video for which premiered over the weekend. And she announced a world tour, which will be coming to the UK in June and July.

The video uses footage from the 2012 short film documentary ‘That BEAT’, which its producers initially claimed had been taken without credit. Though a spokesperson for the singer later said in a statement that the footage was both licensed and credited.

Beyonce’s video director Melina Matsoukas also thanked the short film’s makers for making “‘Formation’ whole”, to which ‘That BEAT’ producer Chris Black responded: “Lol, your 500k budget wasn’t enough to make your video ‘whole'”.

So that was a nice little bit of controversy. But what about these tour dates? They’re coming, don’t worry. But first we need someone to explain to us why this tour is exciting.

Unfortunately, the singer herself did not offer a quote to go along with the tour announcement, but here’s American Express’s Vice President Of Global Experiential Marketing, Walter Frye, which is almost as good: “American Express has a longstanding relationship with Beyoncé and we are THRILLED to partner with her again for the upcoming ‘Formation’ World Tour. We are proud to bring our card members around the world closer to Beyoncé – a global icon and an artist we know they love – with access to purchase tickets for her tour before the general public”.

Brings a tear to your eye, doesn’t it? And that’s whetted my appetite right up. Tickets for the UK shows go on sale next Tuesday, 16 Feb. Dublin tickets will be available on 15 Feb.

And here are those dates:

28 Jun: Sunderland, Stadium Of Light
30 Jun: Cardiff, Millennium Stadium
2 Jul: London, Wembley Stadium
5 Jul: Manchester, Old Trafford
7 Jul: Glasgow, Hampden Park
9 Jul: Dublin, Croke Park
