And Finally Artist News Releases
Benefits Street’s to blame
By Aly Barchi | Published on Thursday 27 March 2014
As first hinted-at via many a nightmarish Daily Mail headline earlier this year, ‘White’ Dee off of television’s ‘Benefits Street’ now has a day job as a rap artiste, and will release a single by the title ‘Your To Blame’ next week. Apparently. So have that, Mail readers, she’s gainfully engaged in a career, just like you wanted.
MC Dee, real name Deidre Kelly (of James Turner Street, Winson Green, Birmingham), has collaborated on the track with nine-man indie-reggae fusion band XOVA, who claim to have a brass faction “tighter than a gnat’s arse”.
Sample lyrics to the single go: “Lay my cards on the table for the critics to see/No cards unturned, you can’t judge me/Everything I’ve done I’ve done to survive/Or done for my kids, give them better lives/See, I’m not too old to have dreams”.
And that’s only a taste. Order the track in advance, if you dare or care to, via iTunes.
