Bellowhead celebrate tenth anniversary with Island signing, new LP

Trad folk clan Bellowhead have signed to Universal’s Island Records, which is one way to celebrate 2014 being their tenth anniversary as a band.
Island will release the eleven-piece’s new LP, ‘Revival’, on 23 Jun as part of its Pink label series, which was mainly active in the 1960s and 1970s, and featured tracks by John Martyn, Nick Drake and Fairport Convention. In symmetry with that lineage, ‘Revival’ will feature B-Head’s interpretation of Richard & Linda Thompson’s ‘Bright Lights’, which came out as a single on Island in 1974.
The group’s Paul Sartin adds: “After a decade together, we’re ready for some overnight success. The chance to sign to Island is really exciting and we’ve worked hard to make our best record yet”.
His bandmate, vocalist Joe Boden, adds: “You look at the history of Island, such a cool brand and reputation across folk and then Bob Marley onto U2 and recently the Mumfords, it’s perfect for us”.
For his part, Island MD Jon Turner says: “Island Records rich history includes the best of British folk music. We’re delighted that in 2014, Bellowhead’s new record will be adding to that story”.
