BBC Worldwide secures international rights for Foo Fighters TV series
By Andy Malt | Published on Tuesday 10 June 2014
BBC Worldwide has acquired the worldwide rights, outside the US, to Dave Grohl’s previously reported HBO series, reports Broadcast.
‘Sonic Highways’ follows Grohl and the Foo Fighters around eight iconic US studios, with the band recording a song for their forthcoming new album at each stop. The series follows on from Grohl’s ‘Sound City’ film, which aired on BBC Four – probably the most likely home for the new series in the UK – earlier this year.
BBC Worldwide’s Director Of Music Salim Mukaddam said of the deal: “It’s an honour for us to be part of this revolutionary project and to be able to allow the rest of the world to participate in the celebration as the Foo Fighters turn 20. ‘Sonic Highways’ has all the same characteristics of ‘Sound City’ – incredible stories beautifully told”.
Grohl added: “From the origins of blues and jazz, to the birth of hip hop and punk and the cultural revolutions that fuelled them all, I’ve pulled up the family tree of American music and exposed its roots to find inspiration for the next Foo Fighters album”.
