Aussie BBQ comes to Great Escape
By CMU Editorial | Published on Tuesday 11 May 2010
More Great Escape previewing, and another international showcase event to make you aware of, partly because Australia is the featured country at this year’s TGE, partly because the bands that will play there sound especially interesting, and partly because there’s free food, and we love free food.
Yes, with all things Aussie in the spotlight at this year’s Great Escape, Sounds Australia are bringing the ‘Aussie BBQ’ event to Brighton for the first time. And if you are wondering what that is, well, the event’s organisers told CMU: “The Aussie BBQ is a travelling live showcase of fine Australian musical talent which is generally presented at international music conferences. It was started by two music fans from Melbourne, known as Stage Mothers, who also work in the industry, to flag the presence of Australian music overseas and to help artists build their international profiles. Since launching in 2003 The Aussie BBQ has become one of the biggest and most popular day parties at South By Southwest, and we also present events in Los Angeles, New York, and at Canadian Music Week”.
The Aussie BBQ will also be happening in London this weekend, and at Liverpool Sound City next week. But at TGE it all happens on Saturday, 15 May, at Digital from midday. Bluejuice, Dappled Cities, Hungry Kids Of Hungary, Bridezilla, Teenagers In Tokyo and Blackchords will all play.
