CMU Approved
Approved: Yoshimi
By Andy Malt | Published on Monday 12 June 2017
Yoshimi Hishida has composed music for films, videogames and even a museum over more than two decades, as well as producing records for other artists. Last year he released his debut album as an artist in his own right, ‘Tokyo Restricted Area’, through ‘dream music’ label Dream Catalogue. His second LP for the label, ‘Atavism’, is out now.
Not as dark as ‘Tokyo Restricted Area’, but every bit as richly realised, ‘Atavism’ is an instrumental exploration of the relationship between Japan’s spiritual traditions and the bustling modernism of Tokyo today. The result is something cinematic and transportive, creating its own magnificent world to get lost in.
