Approved: Widowspeak
By Aly Barchi | Published on Wednesday 19 December 2012
Their last significant release being an eponymous first LP last year, Brooklyn-based boy-girl duo Widowspeak have since let fall a couple of leaves from their new collection ‘Almanac’, and what pleasant leaves they are.
First came the Laurel Canyon-esque ‘Ballad Of The Golden Hour’, a track with a tender western bent and a keener lightness of being than anything on ‘Widowspeak’, whose tone, at times, tended towards the listless.
The also new ‘Dark Age’ bodes beautifully for ‘Almanac’, too, representing a strengthening of the band’s sound whilst losing none of their earlier releases’ strange solemnity.
