Odds are that Ty Segall – who in 2012 has released a triple deck of feature-length records (White Fence psych duet ‘Hair’, thrashy Ty Segall Band saga ‘Slaughterhouse’ and new solo baby ‘Twins’) in this, his most praised and mythologised year to date – will one day fail to match his pretty even quality-to-quantity ratio.
Mathematics says so, anyway, but what does it know? Because far from making music just for its own sake, Segall, over the years, has assumed the stance of wise but benign lo-fi benefactor, and – despite his prolificity – has shared of late only the most choice and the most considered tracks of his vast, Janus-like treasury.
In keeping with the ‘three’ theme of his year so far, Segall plays the first in a trio of British shows tomorrow night at London’s Garage. So to prolong that, this is Ty done thrice via stoic ”Hair’ cut ‘Time’, still-bloody ‘Slaughterhouse’ slab ‘Wave Goodbye’ and ‘Twins’ original ‘The Hill’.
