Approved: This Frontier Needs Heroes
By Andy Malt | Published on Wednesday 19 October 2011
Brother and sister Brad and Jessica Lauretti began playing music together… I don’t know, at some point. Probably when they were children. It doesn’t really matter, the point is that they do. Play music together, that is. They released their eponymous debut album as This Frontier Needs Heroes in 2009, which earned them some praise and some pretty good support slots.
In 2010, they used donations from fan-funding platform Kickstarter to produce the follow-up, ‘The Future’, which was released digitally back in May and in physical form this week, featuring 3D artwork and the glasses required to view it.
The duo’s folk sound is familiar and warm, but also drifts off into more experimental territories at times. Open track ‘Space Baby’, echoes in its own sparseness, gradually filling the space with more sound but always maintaining an intimacy that makes you feel like a part of their club. You can get the album via their Bandcamp page, and watch the video for ‘Space Baby’ below.
