Approved: The Rumour Said Fire
By Andy Malt | Published on Tuesday 20 April 2010
Currently Denmark’s hottest new property, The Rumour Said Fire’s download-only mini-album, ‘The Life And Death Of The Male Body’, has been in the iTunes top ten in the country since its release last September, peaking at number one. Originally planned as a low-key digital taster to test reaction to the band, it was pressed on vinyl a month after release due to overwhelming demand.
The simple guitar lines and vocal harmonies that form the basis of their songs call to mind Simon & Garfunkel, and there’s also a bit of a Sufjan Stevens vibe, too. Wrapped around all this is more of an indie-rock influence, reminiscent of The Decemberists and maybe Mew (though that could just be the accent).
Signed to A:larm Music in Denmark, a full-length LP from the band, and a proper introduction to the UK, is expected this autumn. In the meantime, ‘The Life And Death Of The Male Body’ is available through iTunes.
