CMU Approved
Approved: Sky Ferreira
By Andy Malt | Published on Wednesday 7 July 2010
Sky Ferreira has been knocking around promising to be the next big thing for ages now, which is quite an odd thing to write about someone just shy of eighteen years old. She first hit our radar when she provided guest vocals on a Shoes remix of The Virgins early last year. Six months later she promptly signed to EMI and locked herself into a studio, refusing to open the door to anyone but a string of top flight producers, including Dallas Austin, Linda Perry and Paul Epworth.
Produced by Bloodshy & Avant (who co-wrote and produced Britney Spears’ ‘Toxic’ and make up two thirds of Miike Snow), Ferreira’s UK debut single, ‘One’, places rolling synths and skittering drums beneath her vocals, all of which will drill themselves into your skull as the summer progresses. The single hits the shops on 23 Aug, with the album due to follow later this year.
