Approved: Red Bull Music Academy Sound System at St Paul’s Carnival
By Paul Vig | Published on Friday 1 July 2011
This weekend the annual St Paul’s Carnival takes place in Bristol. Smaller than but similar to London’s Notting Hill Carnival, it last year attracted over 60,000 people to celebrate Bristol’s Afro-Caribbean community and culture. There will, of course, be a parade, plus great food and music. Of most interest on the music side this year, though, is the Red Bull Music Academy Sound System, which has managed to bag the great David Rodigan to DJ.
Rodigan has been tirelessly pushing reggae on British radio for nearly 35 years, and remains as passionate as ever, still presenting shows on Kiss and Radio 2 that span classics and the very latest reggae cuts. He’ll provide some excellent vibes for the carnival on Saturday, no doubt. And also on the sound system will be DJ Die and Gus Pirelli as Laminate Radio, as well as some secret special guests to be announced on the day. Don’t miss it, south west peeps.
Saturday 2 Jul, St Paul’s, Bristol, 1pm – 2am, free, more info from the St Paul’s Carnival site and the Red Bull website.
