Having hit the big(ish) leagues both with Chairlift, and latterly by writing ‘No Angel’, the most steely and skeletal track on Beyonce’s ‘Beyonce’ LP, Caroline Polachek has, since this time last year, been making appearances as her new solo alias, Ramona Lisa. ‘Disguised’ (barely) in a fringed wig and an extra pair of eyes, she/Ramona will release her/Ramona’s first LP, ‘Arcadia’, on 14 Apr.
Its lead single, title track and first-listed song, available here as a free MP3 is, apparently, typical of the rest of the record in that its vocals were taped in a cupboard or at an airport, is about love, and also holds lots of ‘natural’ symbolism. It’s bare and abstract, like a palette washed pale of its paint, and shaded-in again with madrigal organ bars, loops of cloistered courtyard noise and, ringing out above it all like a sad chime, Polachek’s fine-boned soprano.
