Oddarrang

Ten years on from their debut album, ‘Music Illustrated’, and three from their last release, 2013’s ‘In Cinema’, Oddarrang are set to release their fourth LP, ‘Agartha’, on 23 Oct.

Often filed under jazz, thanks to their origins in the genre, the band’s pool of influences has spread wider with each release. On ‘Agartha’, the jazz is yet harder to detect, among increasingly dominant post-rock and electronic sounds. Although the incredible technical skill of the musicians and the structure of their songs provides a clear line back to the genre.

“‘Agartha’ has taken on a new energy for us”, says drummer and band leader Olavi Louhivuori. “The writing and recording process was so rewarding and inspiring for us all. We’re very happy with the new music. For the band, the music is special, it’s part of all of us and brings together our own personal tastes and vision for the music”.

The album as a whole is an incredible journey, laced with sudden twists and unexpected detail, making for a thoroughly engaging listen. A strong taste of this can be found in the single, ‘Mass I-III’.

The band will be playing the Rich Mix in London on 18 Nov, as part of the London Jazz Festival. More information on that here.
