Having at one time played in bands like Shapes & Sizes and the amazingly-titled Miracle Fortress, Caila Thompson-Hannant is now going solo as Mozart’s Sister, today releases ‘Being’, her first LP under that alias, via Asthmatic Kitty.
Leading that are new tracks ‘Enjoy’ and ‘Good Thing Bad Thing’, which, whilst arriving cased in all the snappy phrasings, candyish synths and slick beats that are signifiers of primped and confident chart hits, sneak in a sense of bare-faced, gristly “hyper-emotionality”, with lyrics that catch at a tender nerve. Which is basically what all good pop songs do.
