Lucrecia Dalt

Lucrecia Dalt is set to release her sixth album, ‘Anticlines’, on 4 May. The first track released from it, ‘Tar’, finds her in a surreal and playful mood.

The basis (and bulk) of the track is percussive sounds, bouncing around the stereo field in slowly shifting patterns. Other sounds are lightly applied as Dalt delivers an unusually up front vocal, speaking lines like “we breathed tar as only lovers breathe tar” and “we never could locate a skin or boundary – there just ain’t nothing to press or be pressed by”.

It is an excellent addition to an intriguing catalogue from someone who is always keen to experiment. Another highlight of her work to date is a 2015 attempt to create a telepathic collaboration – with Dalt, Rashad Becker, Laurel Halo, Julia Holter and Charlotte Collin – in which they all recorded at the same time in different locations.

It’s a while since Dalt performed live in the UK, but hopefully this new record will provide her with a reason to come back. In the meantime, you can catch her this Friday at Espace Diaphanes in Berlin.
