Approved: Lomboy
By Andy Malt | Published on Thursday 12 January 2017
A new project from Lonely Drifter Karen frontwoman Tanja Frinta, Lomboy sounds like a lesson in pop history as heard in a dream. On her debut EP, ‘South Pacific’, what initially sound like exercises in recreating the classic song tropes are gradually twisted and mangled out of shape. The results are both pleasing and disorientating.
Lead single and title track ‘South Pacific’ comes with an equally bewildering video, celebrating the life of French actor Alain Delon and apparently marking his death in 2066. The visuals perfectly complement the warped, summery 80s vibe of the track, accentuating the feeling that you might not actually be awake.
