Approved: Kelela & Tink – Want It
By Aly Barchi | Published on Wednesday 30 April 2014
‘Want It’ is the yield of an Adidas/Yours Truly-backed Songs From Scratch-orchestrated collaboration between alt-wired ‘Cut 4 Me’ lady Kelela and gifted Chicago MC Tink, who came at the project from total polar opposite sides of the R&B arena.
With ‘Worst Behaviour’/’Money Trees’ overseer DJ Dahi mediating over its beat (like, in his words, “a psychiatrist”), Tink’s job on the track is to tip in the hood tenacity and the lite, easy glide that Kelela’s slightly stiffer, chillier style (which I still love, clearly) tends to miss. And though I don’t usually go in for hasty brand-sponsored ‘collabs’ like this, the Adidas/Yours Truly ones have proven strong so far, and Kelela and Tink’s might be the pick of the lot.
Watch a ‘making of’ clip – which is really pretty fascinating, by the way – and then hear the track here:
