Approved: Jesse Ruins
By Marc Samuels | Published on Tuesday 24 January 2012
The name might suggest a bland country singer-songwriter, but Jesse Ruins is actually a Tokyo-based collective (formed in 2010 by Nobuyuki Sakuma) who deal in swirling, industrial-tinged atmospherica that is somewhere between the shimmering nu-gaze of Ulrich Schnauss and the psychedelic pop electronica of Maps and M83, the latter being a particularly cogent reference point.
On tracks like ‘Shatter The Jewel’ one can even detect a faint, though possibly misleading, scent of 80s New Order/The Cure. All of which undoubtedly bodes well, and their melodic pop-tinged soundscapes do indeed promise a glistening future.
The ‘Dream Analysis’ EP, out on the 21 Feb, is their second release on Captured Tracks and two tracks from it, ‘Shatter The Jewel’ and ‘Dream Analysis’, are up on Soundcloud now.
