Approved: James Blake – Limit To Your Love
By Andy Malt | Published on Thursday 14 October 2010
London-based producer James Blake has been causing people to make excited noises for much of this year with his scratchy blend of dubstep and R&B. The ‘CMYK’ EP, released in May, was the tipping point for many, but it’s his latest offering, a cover of Feist’s ‘Limit To Your Love’, that’s got me really worked up.
Stripping the original track’s instrumentation back to just a section of Chilly Gonzales’ piano part, adding juddering and then rich, deep bass, Blake’s production allows plenty of space for his own incredibly soulful vocals, which have hitherto not made it onto any of his releases. The result is simply stunning – real heart in the throat stuff.
Out as a single on 8 Nov, ‘Limit To Your Love’ is the first track to be released from Blake’s debut album, which is due for release early next year. If this is the direction he’s moving in, then that album could be a very special record indeed. Check it out for yourself via the Martin De Thurah-directed video below.
