Approved: Flaming Lips and Lightning Bolt
By Andy Malt | Published on Tuesday 26 July 2011
The Flaming Lips are probably the world’s best known psychedelic pop band, and Lightning Bolt certainly come close to the top of the list of most revered psychedelic noise bands. What would happen if both of them got together and recorded some music? You could sit back and ponder that for a while, but doing so would probably make your brain hurt. Luckily, both bands got together recently and recorded an EP. It will probably make your brain hurt.
Previewing a track from it on YouTube last week, Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne was kind enough to ease fans into the video by chatting for the first minute and a half about the collaboration and his plans to sign copies of the EP at Newbury Comics in Boston today. Then the homemade video for ‘I Want to Get High But I Don’t Want Brain Damage’ comes on for two unrelenting minutes. It’ll probably make your brain hurt, but in a good way.
