Approved: Fiona Apple – Container
By Aly Barchi | Published on Tuesday 7 October 2014
Having written ‘Dull Tool’ for Judd Apatow’s intra-marital rom-com ‘This Is 40’ back in 2012, Fiona Apple has returned to soundtracking by writing a TV theme in the form of new song ‘Container’, which plays over the titles of Showtime’s new extra-marital thriller series ‘The Affair’.
The song finds Apple on typically brittle, fragile-strong form, singing the taut anchor line, “I have only one thing to do and that’s / Be the way (wave?) that I am and then / Sink back into the ocean”, and pre-weighting the show (which hasn’t even aired yet) with a sense that ‘significant’, Emmy-winning twists are waiting in the wings…
