Club Tip CMU Approved
Approved: Fathom at Lakota
By Paul Vig | Published on Friday 18 June 2010
The Club Tip tends to be a little on the London-centric side, but I do sometimes look further afield. Bristol has had connections with drum n bass since its birth, and the clubbers’ club Lakota hosts a smorgasbord of dnb delights this Saturday with its Fathom night. The main draw for me is a rare UK performance from Paradox, aka Dev Pandya, aka Alaska.
He’s a grade A performer who I have witnessed twice. Not only does he hybridise breakbeat and drum n bass, but he is an infectious showman, ranting to the crowd about the samples he feeds into his trusty battered Amiga computer’s OctaMed software, while truly blurring any boundaries between beats and breaks. He really is not to be missed.
Also on across the club’s four rooms we have Phi Life Cypher, Loefah, DJ Trouble, big hitters Ed Rush and Equinox with Scan One & Stormfield, Fracture & Neptune, Macc, Jon Kennedy, Tom Caruana, Apathesis, Fraternal, Illusive, Stone Ion and Vega, with techno in Room 4 hosted by Morph. We’re also promised live graffiti by KTF Crew and lasers. Who doesn’t love lasers? This’ll be a massive night out West.
Saturday 19 Jun, Lakota, 6 Upper York Street, Stokes Croft, Bristol, BS2 8QE, 10pm-6am, £12 adv, £15 door, more info from www.lakota.co.uk
