Approved: Efterklang – Magic Chairs
By Andy Malt | Published on Wednesday 17 February 2010
For those of you who’ve really not been paying attention at all, Efterklang are a band who we at CMU like a lot. Hailing from Denmark, the group’s sound falls somewhere between electronica, post-rock and classical music. Their 2008 album, ‘Parades’, filled with rich choral vocals and grand orchestral arrangements, was one of the best of the year, an accolade reprised in 2009 with the release of ‘Performing Parades’, a live recording of the same album with The Danish National Chamber Orchestra.
The band’s new LP, ‘Magic Chairs’, sees them return in a more understated fashion. The same elements that made up ‘Parades’ remain, but more space is placed between them. If the previous effort was designed to dominate rooms, this is aimed at being more intimate, connecting with the listener on a one-to-one basis, rather than enveloping them and all around them. Ahead of the release, the band are streaming the whole of ‘Magic Chairs’ on their MySpace page.
