Approved: Confidence Man
By Andy Malt | Published on Wednesday 26 October 2016
Confidence Man have been building a fast following in Australia with their debut single ‘Boyfriend (Repeat)’. Going by the excellent pseudonyms Reggie Goodchild, Clarence McGuffie, Janet Planet and Sugar Bones, they are also apparently members of Brisbane bands The Belligerents and The Jungle Giants, though it seems likely that this project will take over anything else pretty soon.
‘Boyfriend (Repeat)’ is a perfectly constructed pop song, an infectious tune with blasé and a brilliant false ending. There’s not much else out there about the band, unless you can get to one of their live shows and become one of the internet commenters raving about them, but you can check out a demo of another track, ‘Alligators Making Allegations’.
