Byrta

Formed by folk singer-songwriter Guðrið Hansdóttir and Janus Rasmussen of electronic outfit Bloodgroup, Byrta released their eponymous debut album earlier this year. Their dark-edged songs skirt the pop sounds of the 80s and the best of contemporary Scandinavian fare, with lyrics all delivered in their native Faroese.

Having got to work on writing songs for the project after meeting while living in Reykjavik, they began pushing out tracks via SoundCloud earlier this year, starting with ‘Loyndarmál’ before moving on to one of the album’s standout tracks, ‘Eydnan’.

Directed by Heiðrik Á Heygum, the video for ‘Norðlýsið’ was placed online this week. Fun fact: the Faroe Islands have the lowest crime rate in the world, and murder occurs there on average once every 30-40 years. The video does represent those figures very accurately. Check it out here:
