Bok Bok

Bok Bok, aka London-based bass manipulator Alex Sushon, has so far shot a hole in 2014 with his last single, ‘Melba’s Call’, which saw him smartly consign many-times-Approved lady Kelela on vocals.

Having released her ‘Cut 4 Me’ mixtape to great and well-earned praise last year, it’s fair to say Kelela, as no one else really has in recent times, is the too-long-missing-link between hers and Bok Bok’s worlds, and on ‘Melba’s Call’, she loans an air of “grime cadence” that slides into the tracks’ blasts of minced, 1980s Prince-style noise.

On his new single ‘Howard’, which takes itself from the ‘Your Charismatic Self’ EP, released 26 May, he deals again in the sharp piquancy of silence vs those same mini-detonations, those tightly navigated ‘motifs’ (thanks, Pitchfork) of noise.
