Amazon announces 100% increase in vinyl sales
By Andy Malt | Published on Monday 16 September 2013
Amazon has announced that it has seen a 100% year-on-year increase in sales of vinyl so far in 2013, boosted particularly by Daft Punk’s ‘Random Access Memories’, which is not only the website’s best vinyl seller of this year, but also its biggest vinyl seller overall since 1999. The vinyl edition of David Bowie’s ‘The Next Day’, also released this year, is the fourth biggest seller in the same time period.
Announcing this, Amazon’s VP of European Consumer Business Xavier Garambois said: “Vinyl has traditionally been the music enthusiast’s format of choice. It’s great to see so many people rediscovering a format that holds such an important place in music history”.
Other top vinyl sellers since 1999 include Adele’s ’21’, ‘Back To Black’ by Amy Winehouse and Pink Floyd’s ‘Dark Side Of The Moon’. Meanwhile, this year Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Black Sabbath and Queens Of The Stone Age’s latest albums complete the vinyl top five.
