Alex James planning Britpop drink
By Andy Malt | Published on Tuesday 14 January 2014
You might think that Troy Carter has already cornered the pop music-related drinks market with Pop Water, but Alex James thinks you’re wrong. Only fifteen years after it might have had some commercial or cultural relevance, the Blur bassist has applied to trademark the name ‘Britpop’ for drinks.
The application, spotted by City AM, doesn’t give any idea of what sort of drink James might be planning to make – it covering drinks in very broad terms – but if it’s anything like his cheeses, it’ll be very silly indeed.
Anyway, there’s not really much to report here. I’m mainly writing this piece so that we can all be reminded of that time Alex James ‘critiqued’ the food production processes of McDonalds’, KFC and Greggs for The Sun. All together now: “Yes, big business can be a bad thing, but only if it’s bad”.
