Alex James and David Cameron ‘hung out’ on New Year’s Eve

It’s almost an entire year since Alex James last bothered us with one of his forays into ridiculousness – may we remind you of the time he applied to trademark the term ‘Britpop’ for drinks – but you always know another one of these stories is coming. And this time it’s back to the most unforgivable of all his indiscretions: being friends with David Cameron.

Hey, I know you’ve convinced yourself that he looks uncomfortable being near the Prime Minister in that picture you saw in the Daily Mail. And he does. But there are other pictures. Look at them. They’re just hanging out like it wasn’t even a horrific sight for everyone there in person and latterly on the internet to behold.

And now The Sun is claiming that Cameron spent New Year’s Eve round James’ house. ‘Maybe it was a big party for all the neighbours’, you cry. ‘Maybe it would have just been awkward not to invite him’. And maybe you’re right, but The Sun’s source says this: “Alex kept trying to get [David] to sing karaoke and he looked like he was almost persuaded. But that was the point he realised it was probably time to go home. Samantha [Cameron] was a great laugh and dancing around. It looked like she was playing a leg as a guitar at one point”.

‘Dave’ may not have sung karaoke, but he did, it is alleged, do some “dad dancing”. And now all of that is in your head. Horrible. Apparently Gary Kemp was there too. I bet he sang ‘Gold’. I bet he insisted on it. And I bet Cameron punched the air every time the chorus came round and then told everyone how much he loves The Smiths for no reason.
