Adrian Read joins Darling

Music publicity and management firm Darling has today announced the appointment of the genuinely brilliant Adrian Read as their new Head Of Press. Having previously worked for Universal’s Polydor Records, he brings with him two artists from the label’s roster, Lady Gaga and The Bees. In that he’ll continue to work with them via Darling. He’s not got them in a box or anything.

Adrian joined Polydor in 2007 from Bristol-based online agency Hyperlaunch (which recently merged with 20:20 London), and led press and online campaigns for artists including Ian Brown, Weezer, Morrissey, La Roux, White Lies and Duffy. In 2009, he was named Best In-House PR Person at the Record Of The Day Awards, and also picked up Best PR Campaign For A Breakthrough Non-UK act for his work with the aforementioned Gaga.

As well as working with Darling’s current roster of artists, Read will work closely with the recently launched Popjustice Hi-Fi record label, a joint venture between Darling, Popjustice founder Peter Robinson and EMI/Virgin. The label’s first releases, singles by Rosanna and Bright Light Bright Light, are due out later this year.

Darling co-founder Dan Stevens told CMU: “As Darling continues to diversify into artist management and music consultancy, it is more important than ever that we have someone of Adrian’s ability heading up our core PR business. His achievements over the last few years speak for themselves, as does the fact that artists such as Lady Gaga and The Bees are making the move with him. We’re thrilled to have him joining the team here at Darling”.

Read added: “I’m delighted to be joining Darling. I’ve long admired their work and am excited to be joining such an ambitious and creative company. Dan and Ed [Cartwright] have put together a fantastic team, and it’s an honour to become a part of it”.

Popjustice’s Peter Robinson also told CMU: “From a journalist’s point of view I’ve always found that Adrian’s approach to PR is less likely than most to make me want to retire or throw my computer out the nearest window, so I can’t wait to work with him on Popjustice Hi-Fi releases. He immediately understood what we’re doing with the label and I think he’ll be a great ambassador for what we’ve got coming up over the next twelve months”.
