As you know, former Five member Abz is selling the Best Newcomer BRIT Award he won with the group in 2000, with bidding topping £1 million. Nice little earner that. If only he had more. Well, maybe he will. Because he’s just announced plans to release an album of solo versions of Five songs with a “country feel”.

Speaking to The Sun about that high bid for his trophy, Abz said: “I’m scared to believe it’s real at the moment. I’m frightened it’s a fake bid. I used it to prop open my door. Truly, I’m not even joking. It was a loo roll holder at one point. I bet you there are a few BRIT Award winners who are looking at theirs a bit differently now”.

These days working as a farmer, the BRITs gong was put on sale to fund the purchase of some topsoil “and maybe some garden tools”, which I think it’s fair to say he will be able to afford if the bidding is genuine. But if not, there is a plan B – that previously mentioned album.

“I’ve recorded the Five songs with a slight country feel”, he explained. “I’ve done a song called ‘Lamb Dunk The Funk’, ‘Keep On Mooooooving’ and ‘When the Mice Go Out’. Serious”.

Sounds like a million selling, award winner to me.
